Many clinically proven herbal medicines are known to offer effective cure for depression. The most publicized among the natural depression remedies is St. John’s wort, the little yellow flower which has been widely touted to be a successful anti depressant. Its active ingredient, hyperin inhibits the breakdown of the neurotransmitters in the brain, thereby acting as an effective mood elevator. A word of caution however, that this herb is not to be taken without proper medical advice and without consultation from experts about existing treatments. St. John’s wort is not advised to pregnant women, as well as those recovering from organ transplants. Passiflora is yet another herb that boasts of therapeutic benefits when taken as an anti depressant.

Although these herbal remedies are considered as effective depression help, it is important that the cause of the depression be identified, the situation analyzed and an effective solution be worked out. Along side the natural remedies, those suffering from depression find help in talking out their problems and letting it out, besides improving their health through healthy diet, regular exercise and a better routine. Taking anti depressants has many side effects like addiction to the drug, lethargy and overall impaired mental levels.
