Natural, Herbal and Home Remedies for the Treatment of Acidity

Acidity and heart burn are two common condition seen in people of present era. I am receiving a lot of questions regarding these symptoms from my readers. Excessive acid in the stomach causes irritation of the gastrointestinal covering and this manifest as epigastric burning pain. When excess acid leaks back up into the gullet this inflames and irritates the lining of the oesophagus and the feeling of heartburn is produced.

Here are Some of the Common Herbal and Home Remedies for Curing Acidity:

Salads and Radish - One of the best cure for acidity is eating lot of salad consisting mainly of fresh radish everyday. Your salad may also consist of some carrots and tomatoes, but don't add salt on them. The chlorine discharged by radish is very effective to clear the extra acidic contents from the blood.

Drink Lots of Water: You must drink lots of water everyday, this will keep you away from acidity. Especially ulcer patients, should drink atleast 8-10 glasses of water daily. He may also take cold water baths two times a day.

Clove (Laung): Cloves have direct impact on our digestive process.  It helps in building appetite, removes phlegm and also increases the white blood cell count. After the meals, take one piece of Clove (Laung) and suck on it slowly.  This not only gives instantaneous relief but also helps in reducing the onslaught of diseases arising out of acidity.

Terminalia Chebula (Harad): Keep a small piece of harad (Terminalia chebula) in your mouth and chew it after every meal.

Aniseed (Saunf): Boil one cup of water. To this add 1 tsp of Aniseed (Saunf). Cover and leave overnight. Strain the water in the morning, add 1 tsp of honey. When this is taken 3 times a day it prevents acidity.

Jaggery (Gur): Keep a small piece of jaggery (gur) in your mouth and slowly suck it. Repeat it every hour till acidity subsides.

Fruits and Vegetables: Your diet should mainly consist of fresh fruits and vegetables while you are suffering from acidity. Try taking those vegetables which do not stick to the intestines and mainly fruits, which can be taken without peeling. Initially, the best course would be to live on fruit juices. That would give some rest to the intestines.

Fruits which may be taken are: oranges, water melon, grape fruit, pineapple, raspberry and pear. Vegetables like the various gourds, cabbage, cucumber, tomatoes and greens are the best.

Vegetable Juice - Instead of above remedy you may mix vegetable juice or simply radish juice. Also, remmeber to drink this juice just after extracting it because the gas it has gets lost when kept for long.

Garlic: Take 1 to 5 pieces of garlic and remove the skin and also take some salt. Dip the garlic pieces in to the salt and chew it, and consume the whole juice.

Almonds: Eat a few almonds when your feel heartburn symptoms.

White Vinegar: You may take 1-2 tablespoons of white vinegar. It may help in getting away your acidity.

Baking Soda: Take a glass of water, add a pinch of baking soda and drink it at one go. It gives immediate relief.

Jaggery: After all three meals, take a small piece of jaggery and keep it in your mouth and suck.

Massage: Persons suffering from acidity should be given a daily body massage and should also do deep breathing exercises. This will help in getting rid of acidity.
