Natural, Herbal and Home Remedies for the Treatment of Asthma

Here are some of the Common Herbal Home Remedies for the Treatment of Asthma:

Fresh Ginger Juice: Mix equal amounts of fresh ginger juice, honey and pomegranate juice. Your may take 1 tablespoon of this mixture prepared, 1-2 times a day.

Figs (Anjeer): Figs (anjeer) are known to give relief by draining the phlegm (balgam). Take 3-4 dry figs, wash them well with warm water. Soak overnight in a cup of water and take them as first thing in the morning and also drink the water. You may continue this for around 2 months.

Honey (Shahad): Honey is a very effective home remedy for the treatment of asthma fast. Honey usually brings relief, whether the air flowing over it is inhaled or whether it is eaten or taken either in milk or water. It thins out accumulated mucus and helps its elimination from the respiratory passage.

Mustard (Rye) Oil: During the attack, mustard oil mixed with little camphor should be massaged over the chest. The patient should also inhale steam from boiling water mixed with caraway seeds (siya jeera). It will dilate the bronchial passage.

Drumstick Leaves: Add a handful of drumstick leaves ( sahijan ) to 1 cup water. Bring to a boil and then let it simmer for 3-4 minutes. Cool and strain. You may add some salt, pepper and lemon juice to taste. Take this twice daily.

Fennel: Regular chewing of fennel helps expel infected mucous from the chest. Thus, helps in preventing asthma attacks.

Garlic: Garlic is also one of the effective remedy for curing asthma fast. Take around 10 garlic cloves, boiled in 30 ml of milk. This mixture works as an excellent remedy for the early stages of asthma.

Castor Oil: Castor oil works very effectively in eradicating asthma fast. Five drops of castor oil in half a cup of any fruit or vegetable juice, or plain water, and taken on an empty stomach in the morning, is beneficial for allergies of the intestinal tract, skin, and nasal passages.

Asafoetida: Mix teaspoon asafoetida ( hing ), 2 teaspoon honey, teaspoon juice from betel leaf ( paan ), teaspoon white onion juice. Have it 2-3 times a day. To take out juice from betel leaf, crush them to a paste and squeeze through a clean muslin cloth. For onion juice, grate the onion and squeeze through a clean muslin cloth.

Onion Juice, Honey and Black Pepper: Drink 1/4 cup onion juice, a tablespoon honey, and 1/8 tablespoon black pepper.

Cinnamon Powder, Honey: Mix 1 teaspoon honey with 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder and have it at night before going to bed.

Caffeine: Drinking coffee and and other soft drinks containing caffeine (colas) may help in asthma as caffeine dilates the bronchial airways.

Liquorice Root: A strong decoction of this reasonably pleasant-tasting root relieves chesty colds if drunk daily. It is certainly an improvement on the old-fashioned cure-all of 0.5 pint of tar water taken daily.

Turmeric (Haldi): Turmeric is also a valuable remedy for the treatment of asthma. The patient may be given a teaspoon of turmeric powder with a glass of milk, two or three times a day. It acts best when taken on an empty stomach.

Garlic: Boil 8-10 flakes of garlic in 1/2 cup of milk. Have this every night. It gives excellent results in early stages of asthma.

Bananas: One or two bananas a day are useful for those who are allergic to certain foods and who consequently suffer from skin rashes, digestive disorders, or asthma. The fruit does, however, cause allergic reactions in certain sensitive persons and they should avoid it.

Cloves and Honey: An expectorant and a very effective remedy for asthma is prepared by boiling 6 cloves in 3 tablespoons of water. Take 1 teaspoon of this decoction with a little honey, thrice daily.

Ginger Juice, Fenugreek and Honey: Take a teaspoon of fresh ginger juice mixed with a cup of fenugreek decoction and honey to taste. This mixture acts as a excellent expectorant in the treatment of asthma.

Cinnamon: Mix 1 teaspoon honey with 1 teaspoon cinnamon ( dalchini ) powder and have it before going to bed at night.

Vitamins: Vitamins, especially Vitamin B6 and Vitamin B12 are very important nutrients to treat asthma decreasing the inflammation in the lungs.

Spiegel Seed: 1-2 teaspoonfuls of Spiegel seed with warm water twice a day helps in minimizing asthma attacks.

Garlic Juice: Express the juice from garlic. Mix 10 - 15 drops in warm water and take internally.

Cabbages, Nettles and Onions: All are of benefit to the body in many ways. A good method of expressing the fresh juice from cabbage is to soak the fresh green leaf in water until well saturated then wring out the liquid and drink it daily.

Lemon: Lemon is also very good for patients suffering from asthma. The juice of one lemon, diluted in a glass of water and taken with meals, will bring good results.

Vegetable Juices: Drink a glass of 2/3 carrot juice, 1/3 spinach juice, 3 times a day.
